Other Information:

In Wood County, the Refuge has several trails located at the headquarters (Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge, 3982 Waverly Road, Williamstown, WV) located 2 miles outside of Williamstown.

The "Upland Trail" makes a one-mile loop over moderate terrain through forested hills.

There is an optional half mile loop at this location.

"Birds and Butterflies Trail" which makes an 800 foot loop through a reforested meadow with wildflower plantings along the trail. This is a paved barrier-free trail.

A third trail, also at the headquarters, is called the "Riverview Trail." It follows along the edge of the Ohio River adjacent to fishing dikes and continues into an area of ongoing habitat restoration. The length of this trail is about 1/2 mile.

In addition to the trails and wildlife, the visitor's center is solar powered and uses geo-thermal for their climate control needs.
