Today, young people are spending more time playing on the computer and watching TV, than going outside to play with their friends and families. And at the same time many youth are not eating a balanced diet. This has resulted in an explosion in the number overweight and/or obese children in the United States today. While sugary snacks are fine here and there, they (the snacks) should not replace healthy fruits or vegetables. I Am A Chef hopes to change this growing trend by helping kids make the healthy choice the easy choice.

This program has two components; a live, hands-on cooking demonstration, and a fun, physical activity that gets kids up and moving. And while the program debuted at the Downtown Farmers’ Marketplace (DFM) in June 2011, Laura Foutty and a team of dedicated volunteers in the community are planning to take their show on the road this Fall. But before school starts up this year, be sure to stop by the Market in August to see I Am A Chef on the Community Stage!
