Other Information:

Overlooking the small town of Spencer is an area plentiful in Civil War heritage. On top of a hill is the Spencer Civil War Park, a place that is not only a historic landmark in West Virginia, but is also part of the Blue and Gray Highway system. This park was founded on the same site of a battle between Union and Confederate soldiers in 1861, just two years before West Virginia became a state. The park features a replica wooden cannon as well as a cemetary where the first casuality of the battle, Union soldier William Pool, is buried. There are also informative kiosks, stone benches and ground works.

In order to gain access to the parking area turn into the Wal-Mart plaza and go straight past the store. On the left will be a Civil War Trail sign. Drive up the hill to the parking area.
