This was formerly Hess Fish and Tackle. Here is a little history: Hess Fish and Tackle features quality brands made in the U.S.A. such as G. Loomis Rods, which have a lifetime warranty, and Ardent Reels, which have a 3-year warranty. Whenever possible, Hess Fish and Tackle uses WV products such as Jones Baits and Crane Baits, which are both musky baits made in Ritchie County.
At Hess Fish and Tackle, you can also order anything out of the Bass Pro Shop catalogs with no delivery charge.
Fred Hess has been fishing since he was three, when his Dad taught him how. He still keeps a fly rod in his office, which was given to him, when he was 8 years old, by his father.
In 2005, Fred and his partner Bill Fore won the Bass Festival on the Ohio River and Fred has also competed in the state tournament. Fred’s fished all over the State of West Virginia and spends a lot of time on the North Bend Lake. He sells supplies for every type of fish in the lake including musky, bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish.
When it comes to fishing, Fred knows his stuff. He enjoys serving as an educator for fishermen and sharing his tricks and knowledge. Customers can ask about any item in the store or things such as local fishing techniques and water conditions and he will have an answer or help you find one.
Fred opened Hess Fish and Tackle in 2005 on Route 16 in between Harrisville and Ellenboro after watching boat after boat go by heading to the North Bend Lake. His bait shop serves fishermen living in and visiting the county. In March 2008, he reopened with an increased inventory in a larger building not far from the original one.
As well as showcasing the brands and products sold in the store, the website contains frequently updated lake conditions, water temperatures, and fishing reports. You may also call Hess Fish and Tackle for availability on guide service or for one-on-one lessons.
