November travels across our great state of West Virginia
November 6th I had the pleasure of attending 3 conferences in one at Cacapon State Park a few miles outside of Berkley Springs. That is a part of the state I haven't spent much time in and it was nice to visit another lovely WV State Park. I am grateful we have so many lovely parks and even more grateful I get to visit them :).
WV Parks and Recreations, WV Therapeutic Recreation Association and WV Assistive Technology Systems(WVATS) came together to offer a variety of conference options for folks who attended. I was a presenter in the WVATS section and took the opportunity to show off the o!Pam and as a result the developer of the West Virginia's guide to accessible recreation added information about the guide.
After leaving the conference, I stopped in Morgantown and spent a couple of hours with Nick Hein of Positive Spin, a non-profit in Morgantown committed to helping folks use alternate forms of transportation. I had the pleasure of visiting their community shop where they rebuild bikes and make them available to the public for a donation. They have an impressive system set up and it is well worth the visit to check it out! Not only do they cater to the local area they have partnerships in place to help send bike around the world! It is very cool. I also took the opportunity to show Nick the o!Pam and had him add his organization. Nick told me they are looking for used bikes in great shape so that they can prepare them for holiday gifts. If you know of any, please let Nick know!
