What a great day playing in the streets
And the winners are: WVU-P Pocket Park! We loved all the parks that were set up in parking spots on the street during Park Day 2011. The public was given the chance the select their favorite and the Health and Wellness Group at WVU-P took home the grand prize!
Many thanks to everyone who helped put together a wonderful day in the streets of downtown Parkersburg! We rode, danced, enjoyed a flash mob put on by Schrader's, were motivated by a wonderful jump rope demonstration by some enjoyable youth, got to Zumba, shop for fresh fruits and vegetables and just enjoy a great day spending time with wonderful folks. Business owners in downtown joined the fun, some by building parks, others by sharing their space.
Folks learned about businesses downtown they didn't know existed and have pledged to go down and spend more time in there. The swap meet helped me pass on some well loved items to those who enjoyed them as new treasures. MOV Paws did a wonderful job making the event pet-friendly and many pet owners took advantage and brought their entire families down, which of course includes their pets! Most of all, the folks and people who came together to join in fun festivities as a community were a joy and delight to work with, meet and play with.

We are planning an old-fashion block party. Picture an area in downtown Parkersburg that is temporarily closed to motorized vehicles and designated so community members can safely bike, walk, run, dance and play. Bicycle club comprised of cyclists of all ages and skill levels. The BBC promotes community, social, training & competitive bicycling events as well as supports bicycle advocacy & charitable programs in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
