Parkersburg's Bicycle Advisory Board holds its first public event!
What happens when you bring together some of the communities finest organizations and volunteers in the name of bicycle safety? You have a lot of fun, put helmets on over 40 youth's heads and make some much needed repairs on some children's bikes!
Thanks to a grant from the Bernard McDonough Foundation, the bike council was able to pass out locks to help area youth secure their bikes. The ARC provided helmets and information on proper fit and wear. St. Joseph's Hospital made it possible for Tramauroo to be present and provide encouragement to youth in wearing of helmets. Parkersburg Bicycle provided bike safety checks and repairs. Many children's bikes had small problems that were fixed in a jiffy and the children were riding again!
It was rewarding to notice all the helmets on children's heads as we left. There were smiles all over. Thanks to the many volunteers who made the event a success! Ride your bike.
