Spring ride to Athens
Thanks to Kenyon Cox for encouraging riders to make a round trip by bike to Athens and back on Saturday, March 20, the first day of Spring! Jim Stouffer and I took him up on the challenge and got between 65-100 miles in for the day as a result! The three of us took Route 144 from Coolville over to Guysville and then continued on Rt 7 to the rail trail, using the WalMart as the stop, rest and turn-around point. We stayed on Rt 7 for the entire ride back. What started out as a chilly morning, turned into a gorgeous afternoon, with everyone shedding some cold-weather outer wear on the return route. Jim had a rare flat on the way back but other than that, it was a terrific ride. After a February in which there were very few good outdoor riding days, it was great to get in that many miles so early in the year! And if you see Kenyon Cox’s wife, please tell her to take away his indoor training opportunities! He’s WAAAY too strong so early in the year! – Roger Sheppard
