RVMBA's Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day a success

21 kids, several parents and at least a dozen members of the River Valley Mountain Bike Association enjoyed a beautiful day of fun for our 2nd Annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day held on Saturday October 3, 2009.

The kids were anxious to get going. By the time I came up from the parking area they were in full swing on the tetters and skinnies. Some were already riding up and down a short part of the trail. They were ready to go so Vince, the member so gracious to head up putting this event together, started arranging groups of kids together with volunteers for some group rides. We split up into two initial groups, though Vince's group was pretty large, and rode our first trail.

After the first ride we decided to make the groups a bit smaller and use more volunteers. Some parents were on hand and were glad to ride along with the kids. Hats off to Dwight for helping keep the kids riding by giving them a hand, literally pushing them up one of the tough climbs, one by one. A big thanks to all the volunteers and parents for helping to keep the kids safe while they enjoyed the riding. The rides continued til we had to stop them for the lunch followed by the prize drawings.

With the support of Vienna Bicycle Shop and the RVMBA, every kid got to choose a prize from a great prize table and one lucky young fella rode away the winner of a brand new Kona mountain bike. How awesome is that ! Check out that smile... .

. . . .

It was a great day for all of us and a few RVMBA members got together to enjoyed a mountain bike ride afterward. Remember to watch for the event next year and bring a few kids for an awesome day on the trails with our future mountain bikers.
