It's a great time to enjoy the trails at Mountwood

In the last month members of the River Valley Mountain Bike Association have been extremely busy at Mountwood Park revitalizing a few trails. Little Gnarly had fallen into disrepair due to it's "Gnarly" terrain however has been our largest project and is now completely open and rideable in both directions. Entry points are just off Games Road in the first 100 yards of Dark Side of the Moon and just across the bridge at the base of the Gary's Grind climb. Be sure to check it out next time you are out. It's a bit of a climb either direction however I prefer riding up from Dark Side and ending at Gary's Grind. Some tell me they like it better the other way.

Tecumseh Trail has had a major reroute where it used to dump into the primative camping. Where the switchbacks were coming downhill into the campground, the trail will now go to the right, away from the campground and then switchback and drop down onto the Lake Trail road. Ride straight off the end of the trail and you'll be back where it used to come out. At this point you can take a right onto Lake Trail and continue on to Medicine Man Trail. The reroute makes it easier riding clockwise and a bunch faster and fun going down. Try it out.

Collar Bone "Cutoff" is back alive after several hours of work. Most of the work was removing debre, weeds and fallen dead trees. It is now very rideable and gives us extra opportunities for different loops.

I hope to start on the daring project to reclaim Warrior Ridge from natures furry and slightly easy the climbs a bit. This trail was well named, like Little Gnarly is a little gnarly, it will take a mountain bike warrior to ride the trail without dismounting ( even after the debre is removed ).

The rest of the trails are in some of the finest shape they have been so get out and enjoy a day on the trail at Mountwood. If you are into hiking as well, the trails offer a great opportunity to view wildlife and see the beauty of nature close to home.
