North Bend Trails Update

I did a ride / trail sweep this past weekend at North Bend and would like to report the following. Started below the dam at the old campground. The Railroad Grade Trail from there to the Campground was clear. From the Campground up the Hibbs Cemetary / Nature Trail to the split was dry and in good shape. I stayed left on Nature Trail and found two large trees down just after the bridge. After getting across those it was clear to the road. I then took 10 Acre Trail and after the removal of several downed trees / treetops and removing some undergrowth the trail is in great shape. There is a bit of growth around the big new log over (just below the water tank) so just watch for anything that may fall in there. I rode up the highway to the main intersection and then went toward Cairo where I turned through the Guardrail and picked up Nature Trail again. Was able to remove the few trees down on it so it is clear now all the way to Tank Run Spur Trail. Went up Tank Run Spur Trail and removed a couple trees there, it is clear now. From there I went through the picnic area to I believe shelter 3 ?? and picked up Nature Trail again and rode it down to the river and around to campground. Removed a couple trees on this section however where the trail climbs up the steep (where the trail then runs around the side of a steep hill) there is a big double tree down there. The one large tree, right above the first campsite in the campground, is still there from last year. I rode up to the cabin area from there and down toward Castle Rock on Overlook Trail. It was clear and in great shape. I rode up and across the spillway and up the blacktop path to the top of the dam and then took Castle Rock Spur Trail down to the gravel road and around below the dam to the truck. I have no info on the new Lake Trail loop and will report on it when I can ride it. I have advised the Park Superintendant of the 4 trees I couldn't remove and he advised he'll have maintenance put it on their schedule. If I get it before them I'll let the Super know and forward on. Get out and ride / hike and enjoy the great trails at North Bend.

EDIT: 9/8/09 Just rode all the trails this past weekend and all but one of the trees mentioned were removed. There is another one down on 10 Acre but you can ride to the right along the log so we may leave it. Get out and enjoy the trails while they are in great shape.
