CALL TO MEETING WHEN: Wednesday - June 17, 2009 at 6:30pm (EARLY) WHERE: Marietta Public Library on Fifth Street - Lower Floor Meeting Room NOTE: We are using this room so that Roger Patterson can show us slides and describe his bicycle trip from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C.. AGENDA:

    Special Notice: After the meeting we'll move across the street to Dan & Jane's house for some well deserved social time. Marie and Rick Ralston will be bringing the beverages left over from the boat ride so members should bring snacks.


Marietta Rowing and Cycling Club Minutes of May 24, 2009

ATTENDANCE: 27 people, Garnet Stephens, Nancy Coleman, Al Schneider, John and Kitty Clark, Judy Lewis, Paul Schmidt?, Harry Studwick, Mike Siddall, Peter Prigge, John and Jan Hughes, Dan and Jane Jones, Roger Patterson, Roger Hall, Dave Becker, Linda Lewis, Elin Jones, Drew Smithberger, Cody Shankland, Karen Hunsaker, Mary Gubert, Dan and Karen Tiejin, Dick McKenna, Roger Kalter, Missy Shea, Scott Britton.

TREASURERS REPORT: $983.37 Checking; $54,355 Club Account, James L. Stephens Messing with Boats Fund, $14,235.

LOCKMASTER’S HOUSE: Club had contract rrom city, ready to besigned. City Law Director Chip Riggs is writting contract for Rowing and Cycling Club to take over operations; Peter Prigge is the point person; Roger Kalter said his son, Robert Hune-Kalter was considering organizing MC ATOs for a Make A Difference Day project at the lockhouse (many ATOs row MC crew); contact needs to be made with Noble County Correctional Inst. for grunt labor for black mold and other clean up. Dan Jones said he is willing to take out a third subprime morgage to turn the lock house in the the Taj Mahal (this is a paraphrase-hope I got it)

RIVER RENDEVOUS: 230 Riders registered, expect 15 no shows, 240 overall expected;. Dan reported Rick Ralson’s truck was not available so a luggage truck was being rented. Roger Kalter offered a van to Mike Siddall for the Lowell rest stop. Roger also said he would arrange for water and ice in Beverly trying to track down John Duck, who helped last year. Linda Lewis recruited members for remaining RR job vacancies. Roger K said he would contact the city and ODOT about killer expansion cracks on Pike Street.

CYCLING UPDATE/BIKE PATH/WEEKLY RIDES: Al Schneider reported light turnout for the 9:30 a.m. Saturday riders being at the Harbor. Linda Lewis is organizing additonal longer rides and posting them through e-mails. Bike path contract from Harmar Bridge to Fourth St. supposted to be sold June 10. Roger K. reported city had sealed entire bike path,but not repaired fitness trail in Indian Acres Park. The club voted to provide $250 at Drew Smithberger’s request for the mountain bike race at Wayne National Forest June 13? Dan reported meeting with Kim Boughton about the formation of a Wood County bicycle advisory committee (similar to Marietta’s) Dan suggested we stay connected with Kim because she has decades of experience with Adventure Pursuits and chasing funding for outdoor recreation.

BIKE REPAIR PROJECT: We’ve got the bikes, but specific repair plan still up in air.

BOAT MAINTENANCE: John Clark reported Randandy II, Wing, Nancy R., Doblar and Hellbender nearly ready for launch, some interior painting to be done prior to June 1.

DRAGON BOAT: Practices at boathouse Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-6 p.m.; Saturdays for new comers at 7:30 a.m. Newcomers coming, more welcome. Group is working with Akron?? for training and a race. A Dragon boat coach from Florida was coming in Friday, June 5 for training.

PYGMY BOATS DAY: Up to the Pygmies, no response from head pygmie.

LOCKMASTER’S HOUSE TOURS, Dan Jone offered tours of the lockhouse for anyone interested.
