Volunteer Watershed Monitoring & Historical Tour

Tour the beautiful North Fork of the Blackwater, see historic Coke Ovens, & learn about water quality in the watershed! Data collected is critically important in the process of cleaning up our rivers. Visit Historic Douglas and View Douglas Falls. Refreshments, gentle hike, bird watching opportunities!! Come for the watershed monitoring, come for the historic tour, or come for both, all are welcome.

Where

We will be meeting at the North Fork Watershed Project Team’s office in Davis, WV. If coming from Canaan Valley drive through Davis and look for our office on the left side of the road just after Sirianni’s Pizza and the Fire Hall in large gravel parking lot. If coming from the Thomas direction, meet us at the RailTrail Kiosk in Thomas, WV. Take 219 south from Morgantown or 219 north from Parsons.

Cost

Audience

Anyone who would like to learn how water monitoring works, or is interested in the history of the area.

Course Description

We will be walking and talking about some of the historic sites of the area. We will also be monitoring the water for PH level, desolved oxygen, terbidity and other water problems.

Awards

Helping the community to achieve safe water for future generations to enjoy.
