Size: 10,000 acres
Terrain: ranges from river bottoms to steep slopes with mature oak-hickory and a patchwork of young pine-hardwood stands created by even-aged timber management.

Murphy Preserve
The Murphy family donated this 276 acre tract to The Nature Conservancy in 1967 so that there would always be a place where natural processes could continue without human intrusion. The preserve consists of two tracts of older oak-hickory forest on rolling topography of hills and coves. The two ponds on the property have a large number of amphibians and have been the subject of several research projects.

Pennsboro City Park: Tracy Lake
Tracy Lake, also known as Bonds Creek Lake, is in the Pennsboro City Park three miles north of the town center. It is a 12-acre man-made lake surrounded by steep-sided, wooded hills and a dam at its northern end that drains into the Bonds Creek watershed. A rough fisherman's trail approximately 2 miles long circles the lake along the shore and on the remnants of old ATV trails. Old ATV trails and logging roads are abundant in the hills surrounding Tracy Lake.

Pennsboro Reservoir
Pennsboro Reservoir is a 9-acre dammed lake surrounded by wooded hills and private property. A gravel trail of approximately 1/4 mile follows the length of its south-eastern shore and terminates at a gate. It is a mild, gradual downhill trail.
