  • Alvoid Park

    A small community park that is home of the community skateboard park.

  • Ambrosia Walking Path at Roane General Hospital

    Figure 8-shaped asphalt walking path directly by hospital. Approximately 1/4 mile.

  • Ben's Run

    Ben's Run is a dynamic hiking trail in that one can literally leave the hike from Downtown Spencer. This outdoor area adjoins the City Pool and Washington Park and presents an outdoor option for the whole family. There is a historic dam on this half-mile+ dirt surface trail.

  • Bessie Jones Memorial Park

    Small community park, about 6 acres, next to Pocatalico River in the Town of Walton; trail runs from town center to post office. This park is managed by the Roane County Park and Recreation Commission.

  • Camp Sheppard

    The Camp Sheppard 4-H Grounds are located in beautiful Gandeeville, WV. Facilities at Camp Sheppard include a well-appointed kitchen, large assembly and dining hall, and eight handicapped-accessible cabins. Camp Sheppard can be rented year-round for special events such as weddings, summer camps, family reunions, and dinners. The camp is open to the public as well.

  • Charles Fork Lake

    A multi-use area with over 25 miles of trails surrounding a mile-long lake that sports excellent fishing, canoeing,mountain biking, hiking and camping. The beautiful trails are mostly winding,wooded dirt single-track with old fire road trail as well. The campground has plenty of level road /grass for small children to bike on plus a great stream to play in!

  • Curves in Spencer, WV

    Curves works because it gives you a complete cardio and strength-training workout in just 30 minutes, where you can burn up to 500 calories every time. The circuit is made up of resistance machines that work every major muscle group, two muscles at a time.

  • Frozen Camp Wildlife Management Area (WMA)

    WMA Program enables wildlife biologists to conserve and manage habitat to benefit all wildlife species. Size: 2,587 acres Terrain: hilly with wooded slopes, some open bottomland and a few open ridge tops. Hunting Prospects: deer, grouse, rabbit, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl. Trails: from CR 8/5 a parking area offers foot travel access across an old road traversing open bottomland to the Jackson county border and the lake beyond.

  • Goff Hill Civil War Park

    The site of an interesting Civil War battle that included a log cannon. Great story! You must hike or bike into the park itself. The trails are dirt roads or simply mowed grass. Some of the attractions require steep climbs. ( Approximately .24 mile hike to the top of the hill.) They are well worth it.

  • Grace Community Park

    Grace Community Park has a picnic shelter, ballfield, and large open area.

  • Hungry Beech Preserve

    The Hungry Beech Preserve is open to the public for hiking and nature study. A main attraction at the preserve is its 40 acres of outstanding cove hardwood and oak hickory forests, including American Beech and White Oaks over 13 feet in circumference and some trees exceeding 56 inches in diameter. There is a purported 14-acre tract of virgin forest! This is an amazing,verdant place with many deep hollows to explore. Magical!

  • Miletree Lakes

    These lakes were built in 1929 and together make up 10 surface acres. The lower Miletree Lake has a maximum depth of 40 feet and an average depth of 20 feet. The upper Miletree Lake has a maximum depth of 18 feet and an average depth of 7 feet. Trails surrounding both lakes provide bank fishing access.

    Reedy Elementary is a K-6 school located in northern Roane County. There is a walking path at this school.

  • Roane County High School

    8-lane asphalt walking trail loops the perimeter of the football field. Length approximately 900ft; a little over 5 laps would make a mile.

  • Shanna's School of Dance

    A dance studio offering ballet, jazz, tumbling and tap.

  • Silcott Fork Lake

    This 23-acre lake was built in 1980 with a max. depth of 30 feet and an ave. depth of 14 ft. A trail over the spillway provides access to bank fishing. The trail is crude and narrow; it continues along the north shore and turns into a wider,old 4-wheeler trail. Approx. entire length of 1/2 to 3/4 mile. This pleasant but sometimes rocky and steep path has creek crossings and ends at a gate at a county road near Walton. There is a small parking area here.

  • Spring Heights Education Center

    Spring Heights Education Center is the camping and retreat facility of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our 950 acres of rolling hills are located just north of Spencer in Roane County. There are 6 wooded dirt trails that range in length (1/2 to 3 mi.) and difficulty. This a beautiful facility with A LOT! to offer.

  • Wallback Wildlife Management Area

    Wallback WMA consists of 4 distinct parcels of property in southern Roane, western Clay, and northern Kanawha counties. The lake is north of exit 34 on I-79 and has road access with trail around its eastern shore leading to a firing range. Rough roads traverse the WMA parcel south of Amma.

  • Washington Park

    A beautiful community park. If you enjoy basketball or tennis, both are available and all courts are lighted.
